Gauge is the thickness of the stainless steel. An easy rule of thumb is, the lower the number of the gauge, the thicker and better the stainless steel. All Omni, Bella, and Stratus stainless steel sinks are 18 gauge or thicker.
Chromium and nickel content refers to the percentage of chromium and nickel in the stainless steel sheet. Chromium gives stainless steel its luster & durability, while the nickel provides the hardness & strength. 18/10 Stainless Steel means that it contains 18% Chromium or Chrome and 10% Nickel. A sink with a 18/10 chrome-nickel content is considered to be an excellent grade due to its resistance to corrosion and enhanced durability.
